Viet Nam Initiated a seven-month project Establishment of the Tan Phu Elephant Sanctuary in Tan Phu State Forest Enterprise, Dong Nai Province. Two-month assignment contracted by Fauna & Flora International (FFI-Indochina Programme).

Cambodia Lead the first wildlife survey expedition to the CardamomRange, with participants from the Wildlife Protection Office, ARA (Working Group on Rainforests and Biodiversity) and CAT (Cat Action Treasury). One-month assignment contracted by FFI (Indochina Programme).

Viet Nam Managed a conservation project in the Na Hang Nature Reserve. Project’s components comprised staff training, socio-economic survey, wildlife survey, human impact survey, and boundary demarcation. Participants included staff of the nature reserve and district forest enterprise, and villagers from the surrounding communities. Four-month assignment contracted by FFI (Indochina Programme).
Training Consultant

Nov. – Dec. 1998

Lao PDR Conducted training in wildlife monitoring techniques and participatory conservation at Nakai – Nam Theun NPA for staff and stakeholder volunteers (District and Border Police, and Village Militia). Activities also included the establishment Village Monitoring Units. One-month assignment contracted by IUCN/WCS.
Field Management Consultant

Jan. – Jun. 1998

Lao PDR Field management of Nam Poui and Phou Xang He NPAs. Activities included staff training, participatory conservation, wildlife survey, human impact survey and zoning of protected areas. Participants comprised staff of the Centre for Protected Areas and Watershed Management (CPAWM), NPAs, Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Office (PAFO), District Agriculture and Forestry Office (DAFO), personnel from the Provincial Army and the Village Militia, and Village Forestry Volunteers. Four-month assignment contracted by IUCN/Lao-Swedish Forestry Programme (LSFP) Conservation Subprogramme.

Lao PDR Field and classroom training in large mammal surveys for the staff of Dong Hua Sao and Phou Xiang Thong NPAs, CPAWM, and Village Forestry Volunteers. 1.5-month assignment contracted by IUCN/BCP.

Lao PDR Conducted the first large mammal survey and preliminary staff training in Nam Poui NPA. Participants comprised personnel from the NPA, DAFO, CPAWM, and the Sayaburi Provincial Army. Three-month assignment contracted by IUCN/LSFP.
